IKLAND: A film about the worst people in the world

I've long been fascinated by indigenous cultures and I've always advocated for protecting so called "primitive peoples" because I believe that much wisdom and many lessons are yet to be discovered by modern, western cultures. Anthropology intrigues me.

At a cocktail party I recently attended at a loft in SoHo I met the director of this film, David Hibert.
We had a great talk and I am excited to attend the premier if his film in June in NYC.

Here is that trailer and web site.

It reminded me of just how fortunate many of us are to live where we do, have what we have and be who we are. Can you imagine yourself in northern Uganda, among the Ik?

00Kevin is a "7 of Clubs". What are you?

My dear friend Kara Alexzander asked me what my birthdate was yesterday. Then she sent me this:

IT BLEW ME AWAY!  Put in your birthdate and se what it says about you. Very cool.
I'd say that it is the best assement of who I am (and who I should be, maybe too)...with some small "misses". But, it's VERY good even if it is suspiciously complimentary.

MASHOMACK PRESERVE WEEKEND

These are the kinds of moments I treasure the most in life. There are no words to describe how excited I am. I'm packed and ready to roll out to Mashomack Preserve on Shelter Island. I'm fortunate enough to do so by the cordial invite from my friend and associate Erin McKinnon. What a treat! We're staying at The Manor House and exlporing the 2,000 acre preserve, both of which are owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy, one of my favorite organizations.

This is such a privilege and honor. Not a lot of people get access to the preserve. Even fewer get to stay at this 10 bedroom mansion located in the heart of it. My heart it soaring in anticipation.

A marsh at Mashomack Preserve. The word "Mashomack" is Algonquin for "They Go By Water".

Manorhouse

The Southern tip of shelter Island is home to Mashomack. Just North and east of North Haven & Sag Harbor. Just to the west of Cedar Point / East Hampton.

I've swam around Cedar Point and Rams Point (the peninsula above the Preserve). And I've swom along the Southern and western shorelines of Mashomack. Never been into the interior. I cannot wait to be back on Shelter Island.
